Emergency departments provide a unique opportunity to initiate engagement and mental health intervention with vulnerable young people and their families. However, this opportunity is often missed, with few evidence-based interventions available to support young people at this time.
This study aims to explore clinician perspectives about:
- The intervention needs for young people and their families following presentation to the emergency department for mental health-related reasons
- Key challenges and opportunities to improve care for young people and their families following presentation to the ED for mental health concerns
- The acceptability and feasibility of a single session, family-focussed intervention supporting young people and their families following presentation to the ED for mental health concerns.
