The 2023 MRFF Million Minds Mental Health Research Mission outcomes for funding commencing 2024 have been announced, with more than $1.8 million awarded to two SEED Lifespan projects.

‘Safeguarding the mental health of families in rural communities affected by environmental threats’, led by Associate Professor Rebecca Giallo, received $995,123 to identify ways to promote the resilience of families in rural communities facing existing and future environmental crises.

The project will evaluate whether Family Foundations, a family-based mental health intervention, can promote the mental health of parents of young children (0 to 12 years) living in rural communities.

‘“It’s not over yet”: Improving the mental health and wellbeing of frontline healthcare workers and their families through co-designed intervention’, led by Associate Professor Jade Sheen, received $885,772. The project recognises that frontline healthcare workers and their families are among the groups that have experienced significant declines in mental health over the past three years, resulting in unprecedented resignations that threaten the stability of our health system. The research team will collaborate with frontline healthcare workers and their families to identify, design and pilot an intervention to support their mental health and improve wellbeing.
